Traffic Light Discs Self-Assessment Tool

Traffic Light Discs are a great self-assessment tool to help children communicate their level of understanding of a topic without having to wait, put their hands up or interrupt the class.
Each child has their own set of three, durable, 60mm in diameter plastic Traffic Light Discs (red, orange and green). They can keep them in their pencil case or on their desk.

• The green disc communicates that they fully understand a topic, or they are ready to go.
• If they are almost there with understanding, they select the orange disc.
• If they need help or just do not understand a topic or concept, they select the red disc.

They place the disc on their desk at any point during the lesson. The teacher can then instantly and clearly see when a child requires additional support or input, or when a child is confident.
