Mortal Engines launched Philip Reeve's brilliantly imagined creation, the world of the Traction Era, where mobile cities fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic future. The first instalment introduces young apprentice Tom Natsworthy and the murderous Hester Shaw, flung from the fast-moving city of London into heart-stopping adventures in the wastelands of the Great Hunting Ground.

1 Customer review on 11/02/2019 The story is beautifully crafted & well put together. Several mini-stories are going at once, which takes alot of skill & talent to achieve. The people who live on London have many common sayings changed slightly, to account for the last thousand years. For instance, instead of saying, 'CD's' they say, 'seedys'. The one thing I don't like is the editing. There are so many mistakes in commas & full stops etc. it's giving me a migraine. Spelling mistakes are there as well & not just one or two...there's dozens. No offence against the author, every writer makes mistakes. But that's why the editing team is there, right?
