Dinosaurs run wild, causing chaos all through town, in this hilarious tale!
Amanda Tarlau

Where were you born? Where do you live now?

I was born in Sydney, Australia and live in Point Clare on the Central Coast, NSW.

Where did you go to school
Milsons Point Public School, Newcastle High School and Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School

What were you like in school?
Interested in Art and English, definitely not maths!

What was your favourite book growing up?
The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. It was the first ‘big’ book I read by myself and my imagination was totally captured by the fantasy world of Fantastica.

Who is your favourite children’s author?
Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl, Julia Donaldson, Alison Lester, Janet & Allan Ahlberg

What is your favourite food/colour/movie?
Spaghetti bolognaise/Red/oooh too many to choose from! I like unusual movies which transport me into another world. Amelie is a favourite.

Who inspired you to write?
I loved English at school and my high school teachers always encouraged my writing.

Why did you want to be a writer?
I was a voracious reader as a child and I always thought it would be wonderful to create my own stories. I started writing stories when I was about 8 years old and still have some of them!

How do you think up ideas?
I have a writing book next to my bed and in my bag and whenever I get an idea I jot it down. Sometimes I write stories on the train. My children often come up with funny ideas and inventions which I use (with their permission!) Sometimes I just play with words and rhymes.

Do you have a special place where you write?
On my front verandah with a cup of tea and a biscuit, watching the birds visit my garden.

What is the best thing about being a writer?
The joy of seeing the words which used to live in my head, illustrated by wonderful artists and then finally in print.

What do you do when you are not writing?
Spending time with my family, gardening, walking my dog on the beach, djembe drumming, reading and occasionally I do some painting (my other love).

What would you have chosen to be if you were not a writer?

An artist or a chef.

Which famous person from the past would you like to talk to?

Lucille Ball or Groucho Marx
