Set in 1932, during the height of the Depression, when swaggies and desperate men on the 'susso' tramp the roads,
The circus comes down the road from Gadagai, and Sheba the elephant sits
on a tuckerbox, just like the famous dog. But the McCarrot Family
Circus has secrets. The ring 'master' is a woman, the bearded 'Lady' is a
man, the 'flying twins' are not twins nor what they seem, and the
blonde mermaid is a dark-haired kidnapped heiress on the run from a
savage aunt.
When their beloved Sheba becomes too feeble to
continue to another town, the circus decides to stay with her, camping
on one of 'Miss Matilda's' paddocks so that the elephant can spend her
final weeks with her friends. But once the circus is no longer on the
move, they are vulnerable. For the three dangling skeletons in the House
of Horrors are real.
