Everything is A-OK in the world of Ava Anne Appleton. She lives with her mum and dad, and her dog Angus, and life is perfectly orderly—just how she likes it.
When Ava’s dad announces that the Appleton family are off on a grand adventure. Ava is horrified!
But when Ava meets the wild and zippy Zander on her travels, she starts to wonder—maybe this adventurous life, and a little bit of disorder, mightn’t be so bad after all!
Where were you born?
I was born in Yarram, Gippsland, Victoria.
Where do you live now?
I now live at Collaroy on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
What was your favourite book growing up and what is your favourite book now?
My favourite book was Lord of The Rings — now I have dozens and dozens of books I love, but every so often I read Lord of The Rings and still love it.
What were you like at school?
I was the pretty quiet type, spent a lot of time in the library reading and writing. I loved school.
What inspires you to write?
I can’t imagine now writing, but a good story is always the thing — finding a story you want to tell is what it’s all about.
Where is your favourite place to sit and write?
In my office — I have a lot of books around me and they are a comfort — I like quite a look of clutter and things to look at when I write.
What would you be if you weren’t a writer?
I’ve been a stand up comedian, radio broadcaster and TV host — they were all fun! Although being a landscape painter would make me happy.
What advice would you give to anyone who wants to be a writer?
Simple. Start writing — glue your bum to the chair!
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself?
I am trying to think of something I haven’t told everyone already, for years and years — nup. Seems to be about it.
