Jim's birthday has been a great disappointment.

His present is a bus pass, two annoying girls have moved in next door and his mad-scientist brother has accidentally altered reality as we know it by unleashing the Fifth Dimension. Suddenly there are goblins riding the bus, a giant eel in the river and a massive dragon terrorising the town.

In fact, the town of Queen's Port is starting to resemble the best-selling fantasy novel The Realm of Glory, written by Jim's sister Ingrid who has mysteriously vanished. Together with his neighbours, Jim must figure out what has happened — and how to fix it.

Joshua Wright

Where were you born? Where do you live now?

I was born in Geelong. I live in Geelong. Will I die in Geelong? Only the Gods know for sure.

Where did you go to school?
I went to Nazareth Primary School & St. Joseph’s Boys’ College.

Did you have a nickname?
None that don’t require a lot of explanation.

What were you like in school?
"Joshua shows great promise but does not pay enough attention in class. He needs to focus more on his studies and less on talking."

What is the naughtiest thing you did?

I smashed a big school window. Accidentally of course.

What was your favourite book growing up?
Anything that had dungeons and/or dragons in it.

Who is your favourite children’s author?
Roald Dahl.

Who inspired you to write?

Roald Dahl, Herge, and Charles M. Shultz.

How did you get started?
I wrote comics for myself in primary school and it just snowballed from there. I have so much fun writing I don’t think I’ll ever stop. If anyone else reads it, well, that’s just a bonus.

How old were you?
Ummm… eight, I think.

Why did you want to be a writer?
Because thinking up stories is so much fun!

What would you have chosen to be if you were not a writer?

An animator or illustrator.

Which famous person from the past would you like to talk to?
The Genie from Aladdin.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself?
I write a web-comic called ‘The Big Fight behind the Old Gymnasium.’ Check it out at the address below.
